Scattered heavy showers of rain and hail affected Ireland on Friday.

Temperatures struggled to rise above 6 to 8 C in most places after a cold front moved across Ireland on Thursday night.

Clear skies helped produce a picturesque scene at sunset in Dublin Bay this morning.

The heaviest of the showers during the first half of Friday were concentrated in the west and northwest, but eastern counties also saw torrential downpours by early evening.

A live webcam from The Paddocks Riding Centre in captured the moment a thundery downpour impacted Dublin City Centre at 4.30pm.

Many places enjoyed good spells of sunshine in between the showers.

Further showers will occur during Saturday, the majority of which will be across the northern half of Ireland.

The weather will turn settled from Sunday through all next week as high pressure builds close to Ireland.

Temperatures will also recover and could reach the high teens or even touch 20c in places by the middle of next week.
