Scattered showers and algal blooms

A NASA Modis satellite image of Ireland at 11.00am today shows largely clear skies with showers extending across Ireland from the west.
Phytoplankton (Algae) Blooms can be seen in the Irish Sea and off the south coast of Ireland, along with silt being washed by rivers into the sea.
Phytoplankton are possibly the most important group of organisms on the planet as they generate most of the oxygen that we breath, while most marine food chains depend on their presence as a primary food source.

In a wider view of Ireland and Britain, a band of overnight rain is beginning to clear southeast England into the English channel.
