WATCH Documentary uncovers Titanic’s hidden histories

A brand-new Channel 4 documentary, Titanic: Our Secret Histories, will premiere this Saturday (17 May), offering fresh insight into the lesser-known lives of those aboard RMS Titanic.
Co-produced by Tourism Ireland and created by Belfast-based Afro-Mic Productions, the film delves into the forgotten narratives of passengers and crew—both those who survived and those who were lost in the 1912 tragedy.
Timed to coincide with the upcoming 40th anniversary of the Titanic wreck’s discovery by Robert Ballard, the documentary features testimonies from descendants on both sides of the Atlantic, alongside expert commentary from renowned historians.
Titanic: Our Secret Histories is also set to be broadcast internationally in key tourism markets including North America, Germany, Spain, and France.
The film highlights Belfast’s pivotal role as the birthplace of the Titanic, positioning the city as a must-visit destination steeped in history and heritage.
Aidan Power, Director of Marketing at Tourism Ireland, said, “We’re proud to have co-produced Titanic: Our Secret Histories. This compelling documentary will captivate viewers across Great Britain and beyond, shining a light on stories often overlooked. With much of it filmed in Belfast, we hope it inspires audiences to explore our rich history for themselves.”
Power added that international broadcasts and media exposure are a vital part of Tourism Ireland’s broader strategy to promote the island of Ireland as a leading travel destination.
Judith Owens MBE, Chief Executive of Titanic Belfast, commented, “Titanic: Our Secret Histories not only reinforces Belfast’s identity as the home of Titanic, but also brings to life the human stories that connect this global icon to people around the world. We were thrilled to collaborate with Afro-Mic Productions to bring descendants back to where it all began. Our passionate team at Titanic Belfast was proud to support the project and share their expertise—strengthening the authentic storytelling we offer to visitors from across the globe.”
