
Belmullet records Ireland’s sunniest May on record

Belmullet has officially recorded Ireland’s sunniest May on record, with an astonishing 295.4 hours of sunshine.
The northwest Mayo station beat the previous national record of 294.8 hours set at Casement Aerodrome in 2020.
The new record caps off what has been an exceptional meteorological spring season for weather extremes.
It was also the sunniest May on record at Shannon Airport in County Clare.
On April 30th, Athenry in County Galway logged Ireland’s highest-ever April temperature when the mercury rose to 26.9°C.
The previous record was set in Glenties, County Donegal, on April 26, 1984.
