There has been a significant reduction in Boil Water Notices and Do Not Consume Notices

Uisce Éireann has welcomed the EPA’s latest Drinking Water Report, confirming over 99.8% compliance with drinking water standards nationwide.

The milestone follows a €1.3 billion investment in water and wastewater infrastructure in 2024.

Significant improvements saw Boil Water Notices halved compared to 2023, with 37 lifted and safe supply restored to over 91,000 people. Only five long-term notices remained by year-end, and over 70% of new notices were resolved within 30 days.

Upgrades were completed at 14 high-risk supplies on the EPA’s Remedial Action List, and major works across the country—at sites like Thurles, Nenagh, and Saggart—are boosting resilience and supply security.

Dr Patrick O’Sullivan of Uisce Éireann said the results reflect stronger detection systems, faster response times, and long-term risk prevention measures now in place across over 700 treatment plants.
