A chronological list of weather events and extremes that took place in Ireland on this day down through history.
1979: Temperatures struggle to rise above freezing as heavy wintry showers affect eastern and northern counties and a band of sleet and snow leads to lying snow in parts of Munster.
1986: Gusts exceeding 120 km/h bring power outages to 15,000 homes across Ireland. Flights and ferry services are cancelled, and one man is killed when a tree falls on his car.
1987: Snowfall is recorded across Ulster, Connacht and the Midlands due to heavy wintry showers carried on a stiff northerly breeze.
2005: Valentia Observatory in County Kerry records its highest ever March temperature of 20.7°C.
