1973: Almost two inches of rain falls in parts of Cork. The south of the country records 220% of its average rainfall that month.
1985: Kilkenny records a maximum daytime temperature of just 6.5°C, just a day after the Gap of Dunloe in Kerry records the highest May daily rainfall total on record (104.6 mm)
1986: Parts of eastern Ireland experienced significant thunderstorms with localised hail.
1990: The temperature reaches 23.1°C at Valentia in Kerry.
1995: Shannon, Kilkenny and Birr each record temperatures in excess of 20°C.
2004: Knock Airport in Mayo records a 92.4 km/h gust as strong winds, heavy rain and below average temperatures affect Ireland.
2019: Mount Dillon in Roscommon records the lowest air temperature (-3.1°C) and lowest grass minimum (-7.3°C) of the month.
2024: In the warmest May on record in many places, the lowest temperature of the month is recorded when Moore Park, County Cork, registers 2.6°C.
