Solar Roadshow Hits Irish Farms This Summer

The Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA), in collaboration with Bord Gáis Energy, has launched ‘Solar In Action’, a nationwide roadshow aimed at showcasing rooftop solar power on working farms.

The initiative, rolled out this summer, offers farmers a hands-on look at solar energy in action and the real-world benefits it brings to farm businesses.

Designed with farmers in mind, the on-farm events demonstrate how solar installations—fitted through the IFA and Bord Gáis Energy partnership—are already delivering significant savings and sustainability gains on Irish farms.

IFA President Francie Gorman hailed the initiative as a practical solution to rising energy costs and climate pressures, “Farmers are stepping up to the energy challenge. ‘Solar In Action’ shows the real, practical steps farms can take to cut costs and carbon. These are working farms, already producing their clean energy – and the TAMS grant makes it even more accessible.”

Each event includes live demonstrations, site tours, and direct insights from host farmers who have already installed rooftop solar. Attendees will also hear from IFA and Bord Gáis Energy experts about the technology, installation process, and available supports—including the TAMS 3 Solar Capital Investment Scheme, which offers up to 60% grant aid for eligible projects.

John Cussen of Bord Gáis Energy highlighted the financial impact of solar adoption,“Rooftop solar solutions can save farmers up to €200,000 over the lifetime of a system. It’s not just about lower bills—solar supports long-term farm sustainability and resilience.”
