Water Woes in Wexford

Uisce Éireann is urging households and businesses across Wexford to cut back on water use, as supplies come under significant pressure amid rising demand and falling reservoir levels.

The utility has recorded a noticeable increase in water consumption in recent weeks, with many water sources now significantly below normal for this time of year. As a result, customers are being asked to take immediate steps to conserve water in order to give local reservoirs a chance to recover.

“We’re continuing to monitor the situation closely,” said Padraig Lyng, Uisce Éireann’s Water Operations Manager in Wexford. “Even small changes can help improve supply for everyone.”

Simple actions such as taking shorter showers, turning off the tap while brushing, or ditching the garden hose can make a big impact, Lyng said. Residents may also notice temporary changes to water taste, odour or colour due to low raw water levels.

Uisce Éireann has not ruled out further measures if supplies continue to struggle. In the meantime, the public is encouraged to report leaks and use the online Water Conservation Calculator to identify savings at home and at work.
