A timeline of notable weather events and extremes that have taken place in Ireland on August 10th throughout history.

1976: Temperatures in the mid-20s as Ireland enjoys a long dry spell under high pressure centred over the island.

1983: Thunderstorms develop over Ulster with temperatures reaching the mid to high 20s.

1985: The wettest July on record gives way to a very wet August, with heavy rain in parts of Ireland and only five dry days over the previous six weeks.

1995: A long-lasting heatwave enters its third week, with temperatures climbing into the mid to high 20s.

2008: Clean-up operations continue across Leinster after widespread flooding. Dublin and parts of Kildare record over two inches of rain. A river bursts its banks near Portlaoise, the M50 and N3 are blocked, and public transport is severely disrupted. Emergency services receive around 800 calls, 600 of them flood-related.

2012: An easterly flow brings mid to high 20s temperatures across the west of Ireland.

2022: Malin Head, Co Donegal, records the month’s highest daily sunshine with 14.6 hours.
