1980: A deep low-pressure system brought a cold polar maritime airmass across Ireland. Temperatures struggled to rise above 10°C, accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain.

1989: A wind gust of 113 km/h was recorded at Roches Point, Co Cork.

2016: Ballyshannon (Cathleen’s Fall), Co Donegal, recorded 9.2 hours of sunshine, equalling its highest daily total for October since 2002.

2021: Phoenix Park, Co Dublin, reported the highest air temperature of the month at 20.4°C, the station’s warmest October maximum since 2011.

2023: Dublin recorded its highest-ever temperature for the date at 21.8°C.
