Rain Returns to Ireland After Exceptionally Dry May

Several areas across Ireland have reported their first measurable rainfall of May today.
In Athenry, County Galway, 0.6mm of rain was recorded before midday — the first precipitation there since the end of April.
Although parts of the country experienced showers earlier this week due to widespread thunderstorms, the past month has largely been marked by unusually dry conditions.
In fact, May has set new weather records in some locations.
Shannon Airport recorded its highest ever monthly sunshine total, reaching 261.2 hours — surpassing the previous record set in June 1957.
Looking ahead, the weather is expected to turn more unsettled as Atlantic systems begin moving in from the west.
Rain and showers are likely throughout the week, with forecasted rainfall totals ranging between 15 and 60mm.
