Ireland Records Hottest Day in Nearly 3 Years

Ireland has recorded its hottest day in nearly three years, with temperatures soaring to 29.6°C at Mount Dillon in County Roscommon on Friday.
The Met Éireann synoptic station, which had already topped the charts with a 27°C reading on Thursday—the highest of the year up to that point—again claimed the national high as the mercury climbed further.
In Northern Ireland, Castlederg in County Tyrone saw its warmest day of 2025 so far, with temperatures reaching 29.5°C.
Friday’s heat makes it Ireland’s hottest day since July 18th, 2022, when an exceptional 33.0°C was recorded at Phoenix Park in Dublin.

However, not all parts of the country basked in the heat. Southern and southwestern coastal areas remained notably cooler, with temperatures in some spots struggling to exceed 20°C.
Earlier today, scattered thunderstorms were recorded across counties Clare, Galway, Tipperary, and Derry.
The current hot spell has been fuelled by a high-pressure system sitting over Ireland. But the summer sizzle looks set to be short-lived. Cooler, cloudier, and wetter weather is expected to return from Sunday, as Atlantic systems begin to push in, breaking down the settled conditions.
