Inis Oírr Enters Third Month of Water Restrictions

Uisce Éireann is reminding residents and visitors to Inis Oírr that night-time water restrictions remain firmly in place—now entering their third consecutive month.
The restrictions, running from 11pm to 7am, were first introduced in mid-April in response to ongoing drought conditions and continue to be essential in maintaining daytime supply and protecting local reservoir levels.
The island remains under official drought status, following a prolonged period of below-average rainfall over the winter and spring.
Uisce Éireann’s Tony Kelly thanked islanders for their continued cooperation and urged everyone to stay water-wise: “We’re asking people to be mindful of usage—small steps can have a big impact. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth or using a watering can instead of a hose can help stretch supply further.”
He also advised property owners to check vacant homes for leaks and shut off unused supplies.
For tips on saving water, islanders are encouraged to use the Uisce Éireann water conservation calculator at www.water.ie/calculator.
