Uisce Éireann warns of falling water levels in Clones

As dry conditions continue across Monaghan, Uisce Éireann is appealing to residents of Clones and surrounding areas to conserve water amid falling local water levels.
A prolonged period of below-average rainfall has left water sources under strain. Data from Met Éireann’s Ballyhaise Weather Station in County Cavan show that rainfall over the past 14 months has totalled just 890.5mm, a drop of 26% compared with the long-term average of 1,198.2mm. With dry weather expected to continue, levels are likely to fall further in the coming months.
High water demand during this period can lead to pressure reductions and affect supply to households and businesses.
Peter Gallagher of Uisce Éireann said the situation in Clones and its hinterland is “significant” and urged the community to take action.
“We are asking customers in the area to conserve water in order to protect supplies. Any reduction that customers can make in their usage can collectively result in significant supply improvements for all homes and businesses,” he said. “Even small changes can make a real difference.”
Uisce Éireann has made a water conservation calculator available online, helping residents to monitor and reduce their usage. Vulnerable customers who have registered with the utility are notified directly of planned or unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
