1986 – Dún Laoghaire approaches its fourth week without measurable rainfall. By the end of the month the South Dublin coastal town finishes September without a single drop of rain, setting a national September record for dryness.
2003 – After hours of torrential overnight rain, a massive landslide strikes Co Mayo. Roads are blocked, homes encircled and bridges damaged after a section of Dooncarton Mountain above Poll an tSómais (Pollatomish) gives way following an exceptional period of heavy rain.
2018 – Met Éireann issues weather warnings ahead of the arrival of Storm Bronagh, an Atlantic system forecast to bring strong winds and heavy rain.
2020 – Gurteen, Co Tipperary, records the month’s highest daily sunshine total, basking in 11.2 hours of unbroken September sun.
