A timeline of notable weather events and extremes that have taken place in Ireland on October 9th throughout history.
1992: High pressure dominated Ireland’s weather, with the barometer at Malin Head exceeding 1030 hPa.
2017: The tropical system that would later become Hurricane Ophelia formed far southwest of the Azores. Ophelia went on to become an extremely powerful hurricane before transitioning into an extratropical cyclone (known as Storm Ophelia in Ireland) and making landfall on the Irish coast on October 16.
2023: Phoenix Park in Dublin recorded 23.4 °C, the highest October temperature there in 62 years. On the same day, Derrylin, Co. Fermanagh, reached 22.5 °C, its warmest October day in over half a century.
