The recent drier and warmer than average spell will come to an end on Monday as a band of rain crosses the country. This will introduce a more mobile Atlantic regime, bringing fresher winds and frequent showers or longer spells of rain through the end of August and into the start of September. Winds will be moderate to fresh westerly on most days.

Monday
Warm and humid at first before cooler air pushes in from the west. Most places will start dry and sunny, but cloud and rain will arrive in the west around midday. The rain, heavy in places, will spread east through the afternoon and evening, becoming more scattered later. East Leinster will see minimal rainfall by day’s end. Scattered showers will follow along the west coast overnight.

  • Winds: Moderate south-southeast, freshening to southerly

Tuesday
Heavy showers in the west and north, some spreading inland. Drier and brighter in the south and east.

  • Temperatures: 15–20°C, coolest in the west
  • Winds: Fresh south-westerly

Wednesday
Overnight rain clearing east in the morning, followed by heavy showers in the west and north. Drier and brighter in the south and east.

  • Temperatures: 14–19°C, coolest in the west
  • Winds: Moderate to fresh south-westerly

Thursday
Heavy showers merging at times to give longer spells of rain.

  • Temperatures: 14–18°C, coolest in the west
  • Winds: Moderate to fresh south-westerly or westerly

Friday
Scattered showers, some heavy, with the best of the dry spells in the southeast.

  • Temperatures: 15–19°C, coolest in the west
  • Winds: Fresh north-westerly

Weekend
Further rain or showers nationwide. Temperatures close to average in the east, but slightly below in the west and northwest.

Rest of Next Week
Unsettled conditions continuing into the opening week of September, with Atlantic systems bringing frequent rain and showers. Rainfall will be well above average in the west, but closer to normal or slightly below in the east. Fresh winds persisting.
