A period of unsettled weather lies ahead for Ireland, with frequent rainfall and fresh winds persisting up to at least the second week of September.

Today – Tuesday
Heavy showers in the west and north, spreading northeast through the afternoon. Drier and brighter in the south and east. A clearance will follow from the west in the late afternoon. Clouding over again early tonight as a band of rain moves into the southwest.

  • Winds: Fresh south-westerly, easing by late evening

Wednesday
A wet start in Leinster and Ulster as overnight rain clears east. Drier in the west early on, but showers will become widespread through the afternoon and evening, some merging into longer spells of rain in the west overnight.

  • Temperatures: 15–19°C, coolest in the west
  • Winds: Moderate to fresh south-westerly

Thursday
Heavy showers, merging at times into longer spells of rain. Some downpours may lead to spot flooding, particularly in western counties.

  • Temperatures: 14–17°C, coolest in the west
  • Winds: Fresh south-westerly, occasionally strong, veering fresh westerly later

Friday
Scattered showers, some heavy, easing through the afternoon and evening. Cloud will build from the west as rain approaches around midnight. The southeast will see the best of the dry spells.

  • Temperatures: 16–21°C, coolest in the west, warmest in the southeast
  • Winds: Moderate to fresh westerly

Saturday
Scattered outbreaks of rain, some heavy bursts causing localised spot flooding. Rain will clear the northeast by evening with showers following from the southwest. Mist or drizzle may linger along Atlantic coasts.

  • Temperatures: 14–18°C, coolest in the north and west
  • Winds: Moderate westerly

Sunday
Another unsettled day. Morning showers followed by a more persistent band of rain spreading from the west. Temperatures will be below average, with highs in the mid-teens.

  • Temperatures: 13–18°C, warmest in the east
  • Winds: Moderate westerly

Next Week
Unsettled conditions will continue into the first week of September, with Atlantic systems bringing frequent rain and showers. Rainfall amounts will be well above average, with temperatures below average and cooler nights. Fresh winds will persist. Signs of high pressure building from the south during the second week of September may bring drier conditions to the south and southeast, while it remains unsettled elsewhere.
