Thunderstorm Warning In Place For 8 Counties

Met Éireann has issued two Status Yellow weather warnings for today, as Ireland continues to experience a spell of hot and increasingly unstable weather.
A Status Yellow Thunderstorm Warning has been put in place for Clare, Kerry, Limerick, and all of Connacht, with heavy, thundery downpours expected between 2pm and 10pm today.
The forecast warns of the risk of surface water flooding, lightning damage, and difficult travel conditions due to sudden heavy rainfall. Met Éireann also noted that some outdoor events may be disrupted, particularly in areas affected by the most intense showers.
Separately, a Status Yellow High Temperature Warning remains in effect for 14 counties, including Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Donegal, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, and all of Connacht. Daytime temperatures are expected to exceed 27°C, with high humidity levels adding to the discomfort.
Met Éireann has highlighted several public safety concerns related to the heat, including the increased risk of forest fires, heat stress, and water safety dangers as more people flock to lakes and beaches to cool down.
The combination of intense heat and moisture-laden air is creating ideal conditions for thunderstorms, particularly in western and southern counties.
