49 Water Supplies Remain in Drought Status

DROUGHT-1200x675 49 Water Supplies Remain in Drought Status

Uisce Éireann has confirmed that 49 water supplies across 15 counties are now officially in drought status.

Despite recent rainfall across parts of the country, water levels remain critically low following an unusually dry winter, spring, and summer. The recent rain has provided only limited relief, with many water sources still struggling to recover.

The utility company is actively monitoring supplies and taking measures such as delivering water by tanker to reservoirs and implementing overnight pressure reductions in some areas to manage demand.

Margaret Attridge, Head of Water Operations at Uisce Éireann, warned that the situation remains serious. She said areas in Cork, Tipperary, Waterford, and Wexford are facing particularly low water levels combined with rising demand, pushing more supplies into drought status.

Uisce Éireann continues to urge the public to maintain water conservation efforts, recommending simple actions like using watering cans instead of hoses, turning taps off while brushing teeth, taking shorter showers, and running dishwashers and washing machines only when full.
