Wildfire Risk High as Crews Fight South Dublin Fire

Dublin Fire Brigade is continuing to battle a gorse fire in south Co Dublin this evening.
The blaze broke out on Tuesday night at Ticknock Park, Cherrywood, close to the Dublin Mountains. Fire crews from Dún Laoghaire and Donnybrook stations remain at the scene.
Videos posted on X (formerly Twitter) during the day showed thick smoke drifting across the area, visible from the nearby M50.
The Fire Service said a combination of backpack sprayers and hand tools along with lightweight hose have been used to prevent fire spread.
In a post on X, Dublin Fire Brigade appealed to the public to take extra care in green areas during the warm weather. It advised people to avoid lighting open fires and to use barbecues only in designated areas where permitted.
“Most wildfires are the result of human activity,” the brigade said.
Under Irish law, the cutting, grubbing, burning or other destruction of vegetation growing on “any land not then cultivated” is prohibited between 1st March and 31st August annually.

A stable air mass means a layer of smoke is across a wide area.
Warn night but close doors and windows if you are affected
