The UK is facing a changeable start to September with low pressure systems expected to dominate for much of the month, according to the latest long-range outlook from the UK Met Office.

Between Thursday, September 4th, and Saturday, September 13th, conditions are forecast to remain unsettled, with showers and longer spells of rain affecting much of the country. Western areas are likely to bear the brunt, with heavy downpours and the potential for thunderstorms and hail. The Met Office has also warned that strong winds are possible if deeper areas of low pressure develop near the UK.

Despite the unsettled spell, some shorter periods of drier and more settled weather could emerge, particularly later in the first half of the month. Temperatures are expected to hover around seasonal norms or slightly below, though brief warmer and sunnier interludes may push readings above average at times.

Looking further ahead, from Sunday, September 14th, through to Sunday, September 28th, the Met Office expects low pressure to continue to shape conditions. This will bring further spells of rain and showers, though drier interludes are also forecast, especially in the earlier part of the period. Temperatures are predicted to remain close to average overall, but may trend warmer than average toward the latter part of the month.

The long-range outlook continues a summer marked by fluctuating weather across Britain and Ireland, with the balance of Atlantic-driven unsettled spells and brief high-pressure interludes determining much of the early autumn pattern.

Met Éireann extended outlook.
