Storms Jerry and Karen Track North as Flood Risk Lingers in Caribbean

Tropical Storm Jerry continues to move away from the northern Leeward Islands, though heavy rainfall and flash flooding remain a concern across parts of the Caribbean.
The storm, located 225 kilometres north of the Leeward Islands as of Friday morning, is producing sustained winds of 85 kilometres per hour and is expected to turn north later today before shifting northeast by Sunday.
Rainfall totals of up to 15 centimetres are forecast for Barbuda, with lesser amounts expected across the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Authorities warn of flash flooding, particularly in urban and mountainous areas. Dangerous surf and rip currents are also affecting coastal regions, with swells expected to reach the Greater Antilles later tonight.

Meanwhile, Subtropical Storm Karen is tracking northeast in the open Atlantic with no immediate threat to land. As of Friday afternoon, the storm was located roughly 985 kilometres north-northwest of the Azores, moving at 20 kilometres per hour. Sustained winds remain near 75 kilometres per hour, and the system is expected to weaken into a post-tropical low by early Saturday.
No coastal watches or warnings are currently in effect for either storm.
