Ireland Sends Aid to Typhoon-Hit Vietnam

Irish Aid will provide clean drinking water to 40,000 people in northern Vietnam following a series of powerful typhoons.
Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora Neale Richmond TD announced €250,000 in humanitarian aid to support UNICEF’s emergency response after Typhoon Bualoi and Typhoon Matmo hit the region.
The storms damaged more than 545,000 homes and affected over one million children and their families.

“These communities have been devastated by storms in quick succession,” Minister Richmond said. “Community wells and water sources have been destroyed, creating a risk of disease outbreaks. This funding will allow UNICEF to provide clean water and help people get back on their feet.”
The aid will also support the Government of Vietnam in preparing communities for future disasters and reducing long-term vulnerability.
Ireland’s funding will be provided through its Embassy in Hanoi and continues a long-standing partnership in emergency assistance and development in the country.
