Storm Benjamin, a deep area of low pressure named by Météo-France, is moving away from the UK, with weather warnings updated along its path.

Yellow National Severe Weather Warnings issued for parts of the UK were revised this morning as the storm tracked further east, reducing its potential impact.

While Storm Benjamin continues along the east coast, a separate, filling low-pressure system is moving south along the western edge of the UK. Both systems are bringing spells of wind and rain to many areas today and into early Friday.

UK Met Deputy Chief Meteorologist Chris Bulmer said that as Storm Benjamin clears the UK and heads towards Denmark late tomorrow, cold Arctic air will sweep across the country, bringing a noticeably chilly weekend with below-average temperatures.

“Although many areas will see dry weather with sunny spells, it will feel cold in the brisk northerly winds,” he said. “Showers are expected in the north and west, some falling as snow over Scottish mountains.”

A new weather front is expected from the west on Sunday, cutting off the cold air and bringing a spell of rain, with changeable conditions likely to continue into next week.
