Scotland’s Summits Welcome First Snow of Season

The first snowfall of the 2025 autumn and winter season in Ireland and Britain was recorded in the Scottish mountains over the weekend.
On Saturday, a light dusting of snow appeared on some summits, including Creag Meagaidh on the northern side of Glen Spean in the Highlands.

Snow became more widespread on Sunday as scattered heavy showers moved south on an Arctic maritime airmass. The Cairngorm Mountain Resort shared photographs of the first snowman of the season on its Facebook page.
Temperatures hovered around freezing for much of Sunday afternoon at The Cairnwell, a mountain in the Eastern Highlands and home to the Glenshee Ski Centre.
Blustery wintry showers are expected to continue into Monday morning. More widespread snowfall is likely on Monday night through Tuesday morning as a band of rain meets entrenched colder air over the Scottish Highlands.
Temperatures will gradually rise later in the week as a milder airmass moves in.
