Dull and Damp Days Ahead, Brighter Weather Expected Next Week

Mixed-weather-1200x675 Dull and Damp Days Ahead, Brighter Weather Expected Next Week

After a mild and unsettled week, Ireland is set for a shift in the weather with drier and cooler conditions expected to take hold next week. Temperatures this week have reached up to 17 degrees in places under a southwesterly airflow, but a change is on the cards.

The end of this week will remain damp and overcast. Wednesday will see light rain in parts of east Ulster and east Leinster, with fog and mist lingering along western and southern coasts. Showers will spread south and southeast by evening and move further north overnight. Highs will reach 13 to 16 degrees under light easterly winds.

Thursday will continue the pattern of cloud and patchy drizzle, with mist along Atlantic coasts. Rain will develop in parts of east and south Leinster by evening, while temperatures remain steady between 12 and 16 degrees with light variable winds.

Friday begins dry in the north but rain will push northeast from the southwest. The heaviest rainfall is expected in southern counties, clearing southeastwards during the afternoon. Mist and fog will linger along southern coasts, and some northern areas may see brief sunny spells. Highs will range from 11 to 14 degrees under gentle to moderate westerly winds.

Saturday and Sunday will be a mix of patchy mist and drizzle in Leinster and Ulster. Western and northern regions will see drier conditions with isolated showers and some sunny breaks. Temperatures will range from 10 to 14 degrees under light southwesterly and southerly winds.

Looking ahead, a significant change is expected early next week as high pressure ridges towards Ireland. Atlantic low pressure systems are likely to be diverted south following a shift in the jet stream. This will allow a cooler polar maritime airflow to establish over the country, bringing a crisp and fresher feel compared with the mild conditions of this week. Most areas are expected to enjoy drier and brighter weather, while the highest risk of rain will remain across south Munster and southern Leinster.
