Mayo Wind Farm Expansion Moves Forward

WIND FARM

A major boost for renewable energy in Mayo has arrived with BnM appointing Jennings O’Donovan as owner’s engineer for Phase 3 of the Oweninny Wind Farm.

Located near Crossmolina and Bangor Erris, this next phase will add 18 turbines towering up to 200 metres, expanding Ireland’s largest onshore wind farm.

The development will play a key role in Ireland’s Climate Action Plan, helping the country reach net zero emissions by 2050 while strengthening energy security and increasing renewable capacity.

With nearly 29km of new internal roads and a dedicated substation planned, the project signals a strong commitment to sustainable growth.

John Reilly of BnM said the project is “a cornerstone” in Ireland’s green energy transition, delivering both environmental benefits and local economic value.

Jennings O’Donovan echoed the sentiment, highlighting their expertise in renewable infrastructure and dedication to driving Ireland’s low-carbon future.
