Ban on BBQs and Fires in National Park

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has issued a public warning banning fires and BBQs in all national parks and nature reserves as warm, dry conditions raise the risk of wildfires.
The fire ban will remain in place until midday on Monday and covers a wide range of public spaces, including national parks, coastal dunes, uplands, forests, meadows, and even urban parks.
The NPWS is urging the public to enjoy the good weather responsibly and avoid any activity that could endanger Ireland’s natural landscapes. The reminder comes after recent wildfires in Wild Nephin National Park in Mayo caused significant environmental damage, destroying habitats and threatening wildlife.
“This kind of destruction not only scars the landscape, but also robs communities of places that are vital for recreation, education and connecting with nature,” a spokesperson said.
In response to the heightened risk, the NPWS has increased both ground patrols and aerial monitoring. The public is asked to remain vigilant and to report any sightings of fire immediately by calling 112 or 999 and giving clear location details.
Visitors are also reminded never to try and tackle a fire themselves. Instead, they should move away from danger, gather any group members, and follow the instructions of emergency services.
