A mystery light slowly moved across Irish skies this evening prompting widespread reports from Carlow to Connemara.

Eyewitnesses took to social media to describe a silent bright object moving swiftly from west to east shortly after 6.30pm.

Videos captured in Cork, Galway, Roscommon, Waterford and Tipperary show a glowing elongated shape with a prominent front light that faded into the distance.

Social media platforms lit up with accounts of the phenomenon. One resident in Skibbereen recorded a 45-second clip revealing a shifting halo around the object and no audible engine noise.

The phenomenon has been attributed to SpaceX’s penultimate Falcon 9 rocket launch of October, which flew from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station around lunchtime on Wednesday.

The Starlink 10‑37 mission carried 29 Starlink V2 Mini Optimised satellites into low Earth orbit.

Liftoff from Space Launch Complex 40 occurred at 4:35 p.m.  Irish time, with the satellites deployed roughly an hour into the mission.
