Astronomy Ireland to host lecture on smartphone astrophotography

Astronomy Ireland will host a public lecture titled Astrophotography With Your Smartphone on Monday, December 8th at 7pm, presented live on Zoom. Tickets are priced between €5 and €10.
The lecture will explore the wonders of the night sky and the art of astrophotography, with a particular focus on what can be achieved using smartphones. Attendees will learn how to capture images of the Moon, bright planets, aurora, night landscapes and even some deep-sky objects under dark skies, without the need for expensive equipment. The talk will also cover simple techniques, useful apps and basic accessories that enhance results.
The speaker, Caitríona Mosk, is a National Tour Guide with a strong interest in astronomy. A member of the Connemara Astronomy Club and Connemara Dark Skies, she is also an active aurora hunter and astrophotographer. One of her smartphone astrophotos was shortlisted in the DIAS Reach for the Stars competition in 2025 and is now exhibited in Dublin.
Astronomy Ireland says the lecture is ideal for anyone interested in astronomy, photography or simply the beauty of the cosmos, offering inspiration and practical guidance on how to start capturing impressive night sky images with just a smartphone.
