1961: A major clean-up begins across Ireland in the aftermath of Hurricane Debbie (ex-tropical), which resulted in 18 fatalities.

1964: The Department of Agriculture reports a bumper harvest following a drier-than-average summer and early autumn.

1977: Shell announces plans to abandon attempts to drill two oil wells 120 miles off Ireland’s west coast due to poor weather.

1985: Ireland is forced to import fodder from Canada after months of wet weather.

2018: Rainfall warnings are issued for parts of the country as downgraded Tropical Storm Helene moves closer to the southeast of Ireland. Newport, Co Mayo, reports 28.8 mm of rainfall.

2022: Overnight temperatures drop to -0.5°C at Mount Dillon in Roscommon, the lowest air temperature of the month.
