Northern-Ireland-rain-warning-1200x675 Heavy rain to hit Ulster with flooding risk

More than 15mm of rain is forecast to fall on already saturated ground in parts of Ulster on Sunday, leading to localised flooding.

The UK Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry. Heavy rain is expected to cause disruption between 8am and 3pm on Sunday.

Further south and west, rain will move quickly northeastward through the morning and early afternoon. Spot flooding is likely in some areas following a wetter than average start to December.

Met Éireann has also issued a series of yellow warnings for Irish coastal waters.

From Valentia to Slyne Head to Bloody Foreland, south to southeast winds will veer westerly and reach force 6 or higher at times. This warning is valid from 4am to 12 noon on Sunday.

From Malin Head to Strangford Lough to Wicklow Head, southeasterly winds will reach force 6 at times. This warning is valid from 10am to 3pm on Sunday.

For all coasts of Ireland, west to southwest winds, backing south to southwest, will reach force 6 at times. This warning is valid from 3pm on Sunday until 6pm on Monday.
