Parts of Ireland enjoyed clear skies and sunshine on Monday, marking a sunny end to what has been a drier than average March.

NASA’s MODIS satellite passed over the island shortly before midday to reveal a sunny picture for parts of the Midlands, Munster and Connacht.

However, extensive cloud cover across northern, eastern and southern counties brought overcast conditions there.

Ireland will enjoy widespread sunshine for the remainder of the week as High Pressure develops to the northeast.

The warmest spots will be inland, away from the east and southeast coasts, where a moderate easterly breeze will keep things cooler.

Expect highs of 16-18°C in most regions, though the east and southeast will see temperatures between 10-13°C.

It will feel much warmer in locations sheltered from the prevailing wind.
