1938: Limerick enters its 15th day of a 38-day drought, the longest ever recorded in Ireland.
1941: An RAF Handley Page Hampden aircraft crashed in bad weather on Black Hill (Kilbeg), near the village of Lacken, County Wicklow, killing its entire crew of four.
1972: The Inland Fisheries Trust publishes a report claiming farm slurry and sewage has led to algal bloom pollution of lakes in The Midlands.
1983: All but two Met Eireann synoptic stations (Rosslare and Roches Point) record subzero temperatures overnight, with Mullingar in Westmeath dipping to -3.6 °C.
2003: Valentia Observatory in Kerry recorded a maximum daily high of 23.1 °C.
