Galway and Mayo fisheries reopen

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) has announced the re-opening of three State-owned fisheries: the Erriff and Moy fisheries in County Mayo, and the Galway Fishery in Galway City.
These fisheries had been temporarily closed due to elevated water temperatures, which posed a risk to cold-water fish species. IFI took the precautionary measure to suspend angling in order to prevent additional stress on the fish, especially as temperatures had exceeded 20°C.
Recent readings have shown a consistent drop in water temperatures, with multiple recordings below 18°C at the Moy, the Erriff River, and the Galway Fishery on the River Corrib.
Barry Fox, IFI’s Head of Operations, stated, “The suspension of angling at the Moy, Erriff and Galway fisheries is now lifted. Water temperatures have returned to safe levels, allowing us to reopen these locations. IFI will continue to monitor all State-managed fisheries closely.”
Meanwhile, IFI is reminding anglers that a valid salmon and sea trout licence is required when fishing for these species. Licences are available for purchase at store.fishinginireland.info.
