Ireland’s Long-Standing June Heat Record Still Unbroken

On this day, June 26th, back in 1887, Kilkenny Castle recorded a sweltering 33.3°C — still the highest temperature ever recorded in Ireland. That record has now stood for 138 years.
June 1887 was exceptionally warm across the country, with high pressure dominating and rainfall at a minimum. Kilkenny saw just 5mm of rain over the entire month.
More recently, near-record heat was observed in Dublin’s Phoenix Park, where a temperature of 33.0°C was recorded on Monday, July 18th, 2022 — the highest ever recorded in Ireland during July.
So far in 2025, Ireland has experienced its warmest June since 2018. The highest temperature in almost three years — 29.6°C — was recorded last Friday at Mount Dillon in County Roscommon.
