A chronological record of weather events and extremes that occurred in Ireland on 19 July throughout history.
1984: A 5.5-magnitude earthquake beneath the Irish Sea shook the east coast of Ireland, with tremors felt as far inland as Kildare. The epicentre was located about 10 miles off Anglesey, Wales. Watch RTÉ Archive footage here.
1989: Clones, Co. Monaghan recorded a high of 29.3°C.
1995: Temperatures soared into the mid-20s as the long hot summer continued.
2006: Elphin, Co. Roscommon reached 32.3°C, while Casement Aerodrome in Dublin recorded 31°C, marking one of the hottest July days on record.
2016: Mount Dillon, Co. Roscommon reported the highest temperature of the month at 30.4°C.
2019: Heavy rain and thunderstorms hit parts of the west, with Claremorris, Co. Mayo recording 49.5 mm of rain — its wettest July day since 2010.
2021: On the same day the UK Met Office issued its first-ever Extreme Heat Warning, Gurteen, Co. Tipperary recorded 29°C.
2022: Temperatures reached the high 20s across Leinster.
