Wet Conditions Ease as Settled Spell Approaches

Met Éireann has reported a wetter-than-normal week across the entire country, with rainfall totals far exceeding seasonal averages. However, the national forecaster says more settled conditions are expected to develop over the coming days, bringing a drier spell for much of Ireland.
Rainfall totals ranged from 169% to 523% of the long-term average across all regions. The wettest location was Shannon Airport, Co Clare, with 78.7mm recorded, while the driest was Ballyhaise, Co Cavan, at 27mm.
The coming week is forecast to be drier than average for most parts of the country, with light falls of rain expected only occasionally. High pressure is likely to bring more stable and settled weather through the week.
Temperatures: Slightly Above Average
Mean air temperatures over the past seven days ranged from 15.1°C to 18.7°C, which is 0.2°C below to 1.3°C above average. The highest mean air temperature was recorded at Casement Aerodrome, Co Dublin, while Knock Airport in Co Mayo had the lowest.
Soil temperatures were also above normal, between 1.1°C and 3.2°C above average. Over the coming week, mean air temperatures are expected to trend close to average, while soil temperatures will remain slightly elevated.
Sunshine: Below Normal for Most Areas
Most parts of the country recorded below-average sunshine, with values ranging from 20% to 79% of normal levels. However, Malin Head in Co Donegal was an exception, recording 40.7 hours of sunshine, or 133% of its climatological average.
