Drying Picks Up but West Still Soggy

farm-1200x675 Drying Picks Up but West Still Soggy

Met Éireann’s latest farming update highlights moderate to good drying conditions for much of the country this week, though parts of the west and northeast remain waterlogged.

Spraying Opportunities Limited but Available

Some spraying will be possible today, but winds will strengthen in western areas. Further short windows for spraying are expected between showers on Thursday and Friday.

Soggy Soils Persist in the West

Soil moisture deficits currently range from 15 to 60 millimetres across the country. However, in parts of the west and northeast, moderately and poorly drained soils are near or fully saturated. As drier intervals develop, most areas will see soil moisture deficits rise to between 30 and 60 millimetres. Soils in the west and northeast will continue to struggle with high moisture levels, limiting machinery access.

Soil Temperatures Well Above Normal

Soil temperatures remain well above average, ranging from 15.9 degrees in the north to 20 degrees in the south. These are between 1 and 4.2 degrees above normal and are expected to stay elevated into next week, supporting growth where ground conditions allow.
