Satellite shows Ireland basking in late summer warmth
A NASA Modis satellite image taken at midday showed hazy sunshine over Munster, with clear skies across much of Connacht, north Leinster and south Ulster.
Cloud along the north Ulster coast kept temperatures a few degrees lower in that region. By 1.30pm, readings had already reached 24 degrees across much of Munster.
At the same time, mist was reported at the Met Éireann synoptic station at Mace Head in Connemara.
Ireland is set to enjoy a warm and mostly dry spell through the weekend and into next week, with sunshine in many areas and temperatures well above average.
Scattered showers and occasional thunderstorms are likely at times, mainly in the west and south, but rainfall is expected to remain well below normal.
