Strong Winds and Rough Seas Forecast Across Ireland

Met Éireann has issued a series of weather warnings for Ireland this weekend, with southerly and southwesterly winds expected to reach gale strength along much of the country’s coastline.
A Status Yellow Gale Warning is in effect for all coasts and the Irish Sea from 10:00 to 19:00 on Saturday, with winds predicted to reach force 8 at times. The warning also covers a specific stretch from Slyne Head to Rossan Point to Malin Head, valid from 00:00 to 16:00 on Sunday, where similarly strong southwesterly winds are expected.
In addition, Small Craft Warnings are in place for all coastal areas. Mariners are advised that winds will reach force 6 or higher, starting from 06:00 on Saturday through to midnight Sunday, and continuing again from 00:00 Sunday to 00:00 Monday.
Weather Outlook
Ireland will see unsettled conditions over the coming week, with frequent rain, blustery winds, and below-average temperatures. Nights will become cooler as September progresses, and rainfall is expected to remain above average.
Friday will be drier than recent days, with scattered showers mainly in the northwest easing through the afternoon. Temperatures will range from 15–20°C, with fresh westerly winds easing in the evening. Saturday brings a wet and windy start, with heavy rain and potential localised flooding, clearing southwest by late morning but lingering in the northeast. Strong westerly or southwesterly winds are likely as a deepening low moves through.
Sunday starts dry in the east, but showers develop across Atlantic counties, spreading northwest. Monday will feature bright or sunny spells with scattered showers, heaviest along Atlantic coasts, and blustery conditions at times. Tuesday sees heavy showers in the west becoming more widespread, while Wednesday brings persistent rain across the southern half of the country under southwest low pressure.
Unsettled weather is set to continue into the rest of next week, with frequent rain, showers, and occasional strong winds. Daytime temperatures will remain below average, and nights will feel noticeably cooler.
