Ireland’s Weather Swings from Bright Blue to Grey

From double rainbows to dark, towering cloud formations, Ireland’s skies have shifted dramatically over the past week, moving from bright blue to a palette of greys, whites, and fleeting bursts of colour.
The remnants of Hurricane Erin, anchored off the northwest coast on Monday, brought fresh westerly winds and persistent rainfall in the days that followed.
After a drier than average spell up to last weekend, many parts of the country, particularly in the west, are now seeing rainfall totals return close to the seasonal average for August.
Ireland will see unsettled conditions over the coming week, with frequent rain, blustery winds, and below-average temperatures. Nights will become cooler as September progresses, and rainfall is expected to remain above average.
Met Éireann has issued a series of weather warnings for Ireland this weekend, with southerly and southwesterly winds expected to reach gale strength along much of the country’s coastline.
