Sligo Bay RNLI launched its inshore lifeboat on Monday morning in force eight winds after reports of a boat drifting in the channel off Rosses Point.

Several concerned members of the public had contacted the Irish Coast Guard.

When the lifeboat arrived, the crew found the vessel adrift with no one on board. To remove a navigational hazard, they decided to tow it to Sligo Town marina.

One crew member boarded the boat to help steer during the tow.

RNLI helm Daryl Ewing said conditions were “challenging” with strong winds, heavy spray and a one-metre swell. He thanked the public for raising the alarm and urged boat owners to check their vessels during poor weather to ensure they are secure.
