Cork Airport has enjoyed Ireland’s sunniest skies over the past week, recording 48.2 hours of sunshine, 170 per cent of the weekly average, according to Met Éireann.

Rainfall has been below average across most of the country, except in the southeast where totals were higher than normal.

Ballyhaise in Co. Cavan recorded just 0.9 mm of rain, around 5 per cent of the weekly average, while Johnstown Castle in Co. Wexford received 44.5 mm, more than double the typical total for the period. Forecasters say rainfall is likely to increase over the next seven days as the weather turns more unsettled. The wettest conditions are expected in the west and north, with totals of up to three times the weekly average possible. Elsewhere, rainfall may reach up to twice the average.

Temperatures have been slightly below normal, ranging from 10 °C at Claremorris, Co. Mayo to 12.2 °C at Roches Point. Some locations recorded air frost earlier in the week. In the coming week, mean air temperatures are expected to be close to seasonal averages, while soil temperatures remain above average across much of the country.

After a sunny week in Cork, Met Éireann forecasts more mixed conditions ahead, with sunshine returning closer to typical levels as rain spreads across the country.
