Warning-1200x675 Weather warnings persist into Sunday as strong winds continue

Weather warnings issued by Met Éireann and the UK Met Office remain in force through Sunday morning, as strong westerly winds continue to affect the island in the wake of Storm Amy.

Met Éireann has a series of marine warnings in place, with gale-force conditions forecast on all Irish coasts and the Irish Sea. West to northwest winds reaching force 8 or higher are expected to persist until late on Saturday, before easing slightly. A small craft warning follows, remaining in effect until midday on Sunday as westerly winds continue to reach force 6 or stronger.

In addition, a separate gale warning covers coastal waters from Slyne Head to Malin Head to Howth Head and the Irish Sea north of Anglesey, where west to northwest winds are forecast to reach gale force 8. That warning is valid until 6am on Sunday.

The UK Met Office has also extended its yellow wind warning for Northern Ireland counties, including Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry. The warning, first issued on Wednesday, notes the risk of disruption from gusty conditions through Saturday night.

Ireland’s weather is set to improve markedly everywhere beyond Tuesday, with settled conditions likely to persist into the middle of October. Some parts of the east and south will not record any measurable rainfall over the next ten days.
