OPW Approves €90,000 Flood Study Funding for Meath village

Road-flooding-in-Meath-1200x675 OPW Approves €90,000 Flood Study Funding for Meath village

Meath County Council has secured €90,000 in funding from the Office of Public Works (OPW) to carry out a detailed flood study at Gormanstown Road, Stamullen.

The funding, approved under the OPW’s Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme, will support hydrological and investigative works by a consulting engineer to identify the causes of flooding in the area and recommend appropriate solutions.

This revised allocation replaces the earlier €45,000 granted in February 2025, reflecting the expanded scope of the study.

The Minor Works Scheme, introduced in 2009, helps local authorities tackle localised flooding and coastal protection issues where solutions can be delivered quickly and effectively. To date, Meath County Council has had 11 projects supported under the scheme.

Funding of up to 90% is available for approved projects, with each proposal assessed based on economic, social, and environmental criteria. While routine local authority works are generally excluded, partial funding may be considered where flood risk to properties is reduced.

The responsibility for starting and managing approved works lies with the relevant local authority. Meath County Council will now proceed with the study, which is expected to guide future mitigation efforts in the Gormanstown Road area.

Further details on the scheme and approved projects can be found at floodinfo.ie/minor-works.
