Met Éireann’s late evening weather forecast on RTÉ was brought to an abrupt end on Tuesday night following a technical malfunction.

Meteorologist Gerry Murphy had just begun his forecast after the 9.00pm news on RTÉ One when the graphics system failed.

The background screen went black, leaving Mr Murphy to summarise the weather outlook without visuals before wrapping up the segment early.

It is not the first, and is unlikely to be the last, mishap to occur during a live weather forecast on RTÉ. In 2014, meteorologist Siobhán Ryan began delivering her forecast before abruptly stopping, after mistakenly believing the broadcast had not yet started.

A year earlier, Helen Curran finished her forecast before breaking into song, unaware that the live broadcast had not ended.
