Clear skies across much of eastern Ireland on Sunday brought more than seven hours of unbroken sunshine in some areas.

After a prolonged period of unsettled weather, parts of Leinster and Ulster remained largely cloud free as the EUMETSAT Copernicus Sentinel-2A satellite passed over the island shortly before midday.

Close-up satellite views showed the provinces basking in largely clear skies, while images of the far northeast highlighted how close Ireland and Scotland are.

Torr Head in Antrim lies just 12 miles (19 km) from the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland.

The sunny southeast unsurprisingly led the country in sunshine hours, with 7.9 hours recorded at Johnstown Castle in Wexford.

Elsewhere, Dublin Airport logged 7.7 hours while Casement in Dublin reported 7.1 hours.
